Membership Classes
 
The Australian Society for Microbiology has several classes of membership, namely:
Associate Membership Application Forms
Associate membership is granted to any person who has an interest in the field of microbiology.  Click below to download the full membership application form:

 

Student Membership Application Forms
A Student is defined as:
"an undergraduate or full-time postgraduate" with an interest in microbiology:

 

Senior Associate Membership (SASM)
In order to obtain senior associate membership, one must be:
  • An Associate member;
  • Have completed the requirements of an academic qualification in microbiology at diploma level or alternative qualifications acceptable to National Council; and
  • Have satisfactorily completed at least five years appropriate full-time employment, or its equivalent, after completion of their academic qualification, as a practising microbiologist.

 

Professional Membership (MASM)
In order to obtain professional membership, one must be:
  • An Associate member;
  • Have completed the requirements of an academic qualification in microbiology at bachelors degree or postgraduate level acceptable to National Council of the Society; and
  • Have satisfactorily completed two years of postgraduate full time employment or its equivalent as a practising microbiologist.

 

Fellowship (FASM)
Fellowship is the higher qualification of the ASM which is granted by the Council on the recommendation of the National Examinations Board. Please download information on the examination process below:
The Retired Membership category is for those Members that have ceased full time work and wish to continue being up to date with the latest information. Retired Members will retain their membership status.
Library Membership
Universities, institutions and schools are invited to join the Society through a Library subscription which would give your library access to the Society's Journal, Microbiology Australia. The Journal has five publication issues each year covering a wide spectrum of articles relating to all disciplines of microbiology.
