The University of Sydney invites applications from suitably qualified Immunologists for appointments to Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Immunology, Faculty of Medicine.  The Discipline has strong established links with the Department of Clinical Immunology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Centenary Institute and has new reseach and teaching facilities.  Excellent flow cytometry and new animal facilities are available and a refurbished laboratory will be available for the successful applicant.
The ideal candidate will have an established active research program, demonstrated by research funding and publications and also be enthusiastic about teaching Immunology to medical, science and postgraduate students.  The Immunology courses are well established and include a large, successful honours program.  The appointee will have management experience that will enable him/her to contribute to the further strengthening of the Discipline of Infectious Diseases and Immunology.
The successfully appointed candidate will be offered a full time continuing appointment.  An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated including employer's contribution to superannuation.  Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, you will enjoy a varied role.  Supporting clinical, pharmaceutical and food customers with enquiries that could include; antibiotic sensitivity testing; culture media; supplements and raw materials; diagnostic reagents; toxin detection and support in accreditation.  Your role will also encompass:
  • Providing technical support to customers and internal staff both over the phone and face to face
  • Investigation of complaints
  • Review of published material
  • Support in preparation of training materials and delivery
  • Assisting with preparation of marketing material, market research, account support and attending conferences
The successful candidate will have strong microbiologyt experience supported by relevant tertiary qualifications, you should also be able to demonstrate the following experience and atributes:
  • Strong, solution focused customer service skills with ability to resolve complaints with diplomacy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build rapport and engender trust and confidence with internal and external customers
  • Methodical, structured and organised approach to planning and execution of work

Postdoctoral Position
The Genetics of Biofilms Laboratory
Institut Pasteur, France
A 3-year post-doctoral position will be open starting June 2008 in the Genetics of Biofilms Laboratory at the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France (see www.pasteur.fr/recherche/unites/Ggb/)
 
The future collaborator will interact with clinical microbiologists, physico-chemists and bacterial geneticists of the Institut Pasteur and the Institute Curie.  The aim of the project is to get a better understanding of the ecology and dynamics of bacterial surface colonization in central venous port-catheters.  Using both natural catheter flora and major pathogens, including E.coli, P.aeruginosa and S.aureus, the candidate will contribute to develop a controlled in vivo rat model of central venous port-catheters infections.  This model will be used to study the role of bacteria - bacteria interactions in these settings and to evaluate potential anti-adhesive and/or anti-thrombosis strategies.
 
The appointee is expected to have a good knowledge of bacterial genetics and molecular biology.  Experience in metagenomic and in conducting in vivo animal experiment would be an asset.
 
This post-doctoral position will be paid by the Institut Pasteur at a level determined by the appointee's experience (ca. 1900 - 2000€/month).

The ATSE Crawford Fund Fellowship was established in 2002 with the generous support of Dr Brian Booth AM FTSE. 
 
The aim of the Fellowship is to provide further training of an argiculatural scientist from a selection group of developing countries whose work has shown significant potential.  The training will take place at an Australian argicultural institution and will emphasize the application of knowledge to increased agricultural production in the Fellow's home country.
 
The Fellowing will be offered annually to an agricultural scientist below the age of 35 years who is a citizen of, or who is working in, on of the following countries;
